My step-dad and i were having one of those 'deep and meaningful' conversations which probably belong in any Aussie drama (god knows they need something half-decent) and he raised the most interesting matter. The said that "in twenty years or so when you're an 'old fart' like me, you'll look back and wished you had done things a lot differently". Indeed, he was right and people should correct things before it's too late. He suggested that i better patch up things with an old friend that ended sour and well, who can argue with fatherly advice.
In the strangest way, the notion reminds me of the movie 'Donnie Darko' which someone recommended i watch. Despite not comprehending the 'mind-fuck' comparable to 'Inception' the premise was simple (as far as the paradoxical nature of time travel is concerned). As you can guess, it was about time-travel, and it was a lot darker, deeper about metaphysics than the likes of 'The Time Machine' and 'Back to the Future' which had happier messages about existence. In reality, most people are stuck in the 'primary universe' with no way of changing the past however it is never too late to change the future by changing the present, which although determined by the past, which is of course unchangeable in the present, can still be changed in the present rather than the future where then it would become the past again. Isn't time travel just the best?
As far as changing things, i'm not referring to 'Dude Where's My Car?' sort of regrets in which tequila may have overpowered your memory of their night. I'm referring to those frayed heartstrings you may have tugged, or those opportunities to fulfill your desire, or those serious crossroads people get stuck at for lengthy periods, and after a trek, realise they've headed in the wrong direction. I'm sure countless motivational personalities and books (this includes religion) ask for you to seize the day but in reality, not everyone can but you have to extract as much juice as possible from life's orange of utilitarian success. Bad metaphors aside, the Easter season has probably been enlightening for those who follow the motivational speakings of Jesus (blasphemy aside, it must be noted that i'm an agnostic). Yesterday was Easter Sunday, and Jesus died (subsequently reborn) to repent all our sins and even for non-believers, Jesus is one hell of a guy. Of course, for those who follow the less sentimental Easter, it was a trip to scavenge Easter eggs from the almighty Easter bunny. Let's just say i've had my fair share of chocolate for another year.
Having a relaxing Easter so bye.
P.S. Lest We Forget - For we are not commemorating war itself but the bravery of men who fought for our freedom.
